Why Your Construction Project Needs Security

Why Your Construction Project Needs Security

When you think of a security guard, is the first thing that pops into your head a celebrity or person holding a political position, being followed by a security detail? Or perhaps you just imagine a security guard wandering through a bank or a museum, to keep everyone in check. These are stereotypical roles of security personnel, but there are so many reasons besides this that you should consider hiring security. One instance where you should consider hiring security is on a construction site.

Protect what’s valuable

When a building is under construction, it’s assumed that there is nothing of value inside the building. If this is your line of thought, however, you’re sorely mistaken. A building under construction is filled with valuable items. Building materials are valuable, and it would be a devastating loss to come back to the site and find that all of your lumber, piping, or wiring had been stolen while you were away.

There’s no way for you to lock up these items on a construction site. A commercial building has a lock, so even if that’s the only safety measure, it’s still secure. This just simply isn’t an option for a building under construction.

Another thing of value that would be devastating to lose, is construction equipment. Having one of these machines stolen would cost you thousands and thousands of dollars to replace.

Prevent vandalism

The most common time for vandalism to a construction site is in the middle of the night, when work has halted. There are a few things you can do to deter vandalism. One is to have a way to lock up your equipment and site. This sometimes isn’t possible. The other option is to have 24 hour surveillance of the site. Having constant surveillance will make it much harder for someone to damage your property.

Keep civilians and bystanders safe

There are plenty of safety protocols put into place to protect construction workers. But all too often, there is nothing to enforce the safety of civilians and anyone that may be passing by the construction site. To keep you and your company safe from future incident, hiring security detail is a good idea. They’ll deter unwanted guests, ensure that unauthorized personnel don’t visit hazardous areas of the construction site, and they’ll regulate the visitors that you do want there.

The last thing that you want is for your entire construction problem to be halted because of an incident that was outside of your control due to a bystander or civilian accessing your construction site. The easiest way to eliminate the possibility of this issue is to have security personnel available to prevent this.

Preventing vandalism is a major factor of hiring construction security. No one wants to see all their hard work defaced. My brother recently had a group of kids break into his construction site and ruin a painting job he and his crew had been working on. They were never caught, it’s always hard to catch these types of vandals. If he had security nothing would have happened.
