01 May How to Keep Your Home Safe When Ridesharing
There are so many modern conveniences available at our fingertips, just a simple tap or swipe away. One of these conveniences, is ridesharing. Through apps such as Uber or Lyft, you can easily request a ride to anywhere, at absolutely anytime. These are convenient, but for some people, it raises concerns. Although these services are careful with who they select to be drivers, you can never be too careful. Some ill-meaning drivers could give you a ride somewhere, and then double back to your home since they know it will be left unattended. If you’re worried about this, there are a few safety precautions that you can take to make sure your home is safe, no matter what.
Security equipment for your home
When you leave your residence at any point, even if you’re not using a ridesharing service, you run the risk of someone seeing you leave your home and taking advantage of the fact that your home will be left unattended, and invade your home. This is a scenario that is not unique to people who use ridesharing apps on a regular basis. The best way to protect yourself and your home, is to invest in security equipment for your home, so you can keep an eye on it no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
-Door and window sensors. You can set up these sensors to alert your mobile device anytime a door or window is opened when you’re not at home.
-Doorbell cameras. Even when you’re not home, you can use your phone to see who is at your front door. This helps you identify the intruder, which can be helpful if they do manage to break into your home somehow.
-Monitored home alarm systems. These will trigger alarms if an intruder does enter your home. In most cases, this will scare them off and keep them from doing what they came to do. With certain alarm systems, it will also send you a notification as well as alert emergency services.
-Smart lights. These lights can turn on even when you’re not at home, to make it seem like someone is home even when they are not. This alone will deter a lot of intruders.
-Outdoor video surveillance. This is a good idea even for when you are at home. Having the ability to see who is outside and around your home, no matter where you are, is a great advantage to home. Many of these devices will also record for you.
