The 2022 Crime Forecast

The 2022 Crime Forecast

The National Conversation

It may seem strange to want to forecast any potential crime in the upcoming months, since so many disparate and unknowable factors can affect it, but that is exactly what criminologists and politicians do as the calendar rolls over each year. In a way, we all attempt to glance downfield
at what might happen as a result of this bill, or that policy, or those initiatives, and cast our vote on election night accordingly.

In light of the year that was 2020 and its many bouts of social unrest, a much higher premium is being placed on one’s ability to anticipate danger and take preventative measures to protect oneself and one’s property.

Preventative Measures

This presents opportunities for security services like CBI to show their quality on a large scale. When a potential client calls us, we do more than simply offer access to a personal security guard; we specialize in carrying out a comprehensive security evaluation. This entails:

  • Identifying potential threats in the physical environment in which your home or business resides.
  • Evaluating the holes in your surveillance system and suggesting locations for alarms and cameras.
  • Suggesting on-site security personnel, either as a full-time security guard or drive-by mobile patrols.

This type of service can prove extremely prescient, as violence continues to ramp up across the country.

Where It All Comes From

What evidence do we have to believe that things will either carry on or get worse in terms of crime in the new year? For starters, there are the predictions of civil scientists like those at Verisk Maplecroft who perform data risk analysis research and data modeling. According to their studies at the start of 2021, they have determined that in light of the socio-economic downturn of COVID-19:

  • The number of protests across the US will increase through late 2022
  • Civil unrest will remain elevated above historic trends into 2023
  • Inflation and supply chain shortages will continue to disrupt businesses

As pressure mounts, so too will demonstrations from an upset public. This will manifest across the spectrum, from peaceful protests to riots. As one of the midWest’s most trusted security companies, we at CBI can theoretically extrapolate this behavior down to the individual who might act out violently. It is that person, or group of people, from whom we want to protect you.

A Political Storm

There are other metrics by which a crime forecast is being drawn up. Those currently in elected power in Washington and elsewhere are very conscientious of the rise in violent crimes across the country, especially in relatively small urban centers not typically known for being dangerous.

  • Murders in cities such as Albuquerque, Austin, and Pittsburgh have doubled in 2021, while they are up 5x in Portland.
  • Defunding police precincts has shown spotty results in stopping violent crime, with many cities electing to restore funds after a short trial period.
  • House and Senate seats historically swing wildly across the aisle during a president’s first term, which could mean further divisive lawmaking.

While all of this is going on on the macro scale, individuals on the microscale are contacting security services for help in protecting their family and possessions. At CBI Security, we host the best training for armed and unarmed personal security guards in the United States, thanks to the experience of our team members. Virtually all of our officers were recruited from various branches of civil protection, like the police and the military.

Keeping You Safe

Whatever ends up happening in 2022, you don’t need to spend your time worrying about how it might affect the safety of you and your family. Give us a call today and we will give you full use of our expertise to find the holes in your security and fill them.
